It's a fantastic "problem" to have in all fairness.

What will be interesting next year will be availability of tickets. As things are looking Connacht will be in the European Champions Cup. Also Connacht are playing a brand of rugby that is most entertaining. As such one would expect that the number of season ticket holders could potentially increase significantly for the new season. This has a knock-on effect of there being significantly fewer tickets available on a game by game basis. This further makes the purchase of a season ticket more important. And then this brings up the issue of how to increase capacity at the sportsground. If this is not addressed soon there will likely be a lot of disappointed connacht fans never mind travelling supporters to the sportsground.

Nice one. Wonder how they managed that?

If they can get that number in for both remaining games that would give them a season average of 5,229 which would be fantastic (by Connacht standards) after such a slow start.

I'd say a lot of these tickets are "corporate" tickets as well (i.e. a pint and a programme for forty quid extra). 7:15 kick off should mean brisk business at the bar. I'm sure they'll be pushing season tickets with every opportunity as well.

Make hay whilst the sun shines.

Yes, tweet from Connacht said "with stadium capacity extended to a season record of 7800"

Happily you lads can do your stats in advance this week:
7800 total sellout already

Can't wait for this, two tough losses in a row.....someone is going to feel the backlash and who better than Munster!

I believe capacity is reduced on health and safety grounds. The only difference between this weekend's configuration and the first Toulouse game was the temporary seated stand, which certainly doesn't account for a difference of 1800 in capacity.

Can someone tell Gerry Thornley that a crowd of 7,300 at the Sportsground isn't a record, or even all that unusual?

Anyway, two more sell outs (which I'd hope we can bank upon at this stage) would bring us to an average attendance of 5,138 for the season.

(Why is the maximum capacity so significantly lower this year than even last season? [edit] It must've been that temporary stand on the Main Stand side....not as pointless as it looked if it could accommodate an extra 500)

It's also the first game this season when the attendance was higher than in the corresponding game last year. Disappointing to see attendances back as results improve, though obviously there's some big ones to come.

I think last night was a record attendance for an Ospreys game.

Bang on there Benji, started bringing my nearly 7yr old daughter last year and she has 'managed' four games including Munster away. Easiest being Munster away because she had a seat and wasn't baltic. A few treats helped of course!

I'd say its going to be fairly busy from now on at the sportsground. I live in Dublin and get down when I can. The one thing thats badly missed is a decent stand where people with kids can sit down.
They had a temporary stand up a few years ago. It's location wasnt great but at least you could sit and enjoy the game. Its not kid or elderly friendly. I know you can go upstairs but I'd rather watch it in the Foxhunters than a fishbowl.
I love standing up myself at the games but I like to bring the young lad who is 8.

I would expect the attendances to rise significantly for the rest of the season. There is a heightened excitement about Connacht right now. At work it was only really myself that ever spoke about rugby but the past couple of weeks there has been a significant increase in discussion about Connacht Rugby. I've become Mr Popular all of a sudden. :P

Good crowd yesterday but we're still well down on recent seasons. World Cup? Weather? Fewer Season Tickets without the muliaina-effect?

Still, we've a lot of big names to visit yet (including Munster and Leinster), so hopefully we can get a 5k through the gate a few more times before the end of the season.
