One of the points I made regarding publicising the clan was to set up a stall. Just to be clear all I had in mind was a table on each side of the ground to hand out leaflets or give out info.

Just to make a few quid to cover expenses why not sell some raffle tickets to win some Connacht or clan gear. again KISS and just sell 100 tickets a €1 or 50 at €2 and do a draw for a jersey or hoodie, we could do this at a few matches and perhaps make a few hundred euros.

true its only small money, but the might oak grows from the tiny acorn.

I personally wouldn't mind buying a ticket for €2 in a limited draw for a jersey, if the idea took off you could have multiple draws for gear at each home match.

Hi everyone,

So player sponsorship is usually a private agreement between Connacht Rugby and the sponsor. This is so that players are not aware of how much they are being marketed at, and they are not aware of not/being sponsored up until the start of the season. This is there to protect fragile egos.
As such Connacht Rugby have asked us NOT to release a list of unsponsored players.

However the list is short at the minute, and if you want to sponsor an Irish player it is shorter. Also we want to sponsor a back as they have more of a chance of getting over the line, but also a back that will have a few shots as well. So we have a player in mind... Matt Healy.
He is available and fits the bill (as much as we can).

Regarding collecting the money, we can give the Connacht Clan bank details to those willing to partake. How does that all sound?

Why not pass a sign up sheet around at the AGM, (Name, Address, email, donated amount and signature). That way you can then send out the Clan Bank account details to anyone who signs up on the night and the money can be transferred direct. It will also give you a record of who made what commitment.

Could do that as well I suppose. The idea with the bank transfer was two-fold.
1) To facilitate our ex-pat brothers (S_P) and sisters (ummmm,).
2) To avoid handling cash.

In order to track the transfers I was just going to ask everyone to put their name in the transaction description.

Are people okay with Matt Healy then as our sponsored player?

Fair play to diom for his work on this. I think Matt Healy is a good choice. He's a player who has shown some promise with limited opportunities. He could have a good season. Really I think if we can get this off the ground this season it has the potential to snowball.

I think the stall is a great idea -with a poster saying "sign up here for free membership" or similar. Get people to simply write their name and email address and they can be contacted in following weeks. A stall could be at st holders gig next week and at first home game- would need permission from Connacht I assume.

I'm happy with anyone to be honest, so whatever the crowd wants, I'll make a donation.
I wont be at the AGM, so will need a way to deposit money towards this

Good stuff, gents. What are we all going to put in? Once we have an idea as to what everyone is putting in I can PM the bank details around.

The idea is that people can contribute what they want, so one of the three values in the poll above

"Our march is quite slow y'know, when we get to where we want to get to, it's going to take time, but when we get there it's going to be fantastic." - Johnny O'Connor 2013

Make sure to include the IBAN and anything else needed for international transfers.

Don't forget to market it as "Fundraising for Mayo GAA", I hear that's a very popular way to make a bit of extra cash these days.

Bank Transfer/Pay Pal is the preferred option, people are less inclined to stick their name and info down on a sheet of paper much less the amount they are committing (it's a private matter fopr most people, and the sheet just put's undue pressure on attendees and excludes non-atendees).

If the Clan Committee knows what the figure required for sponsorship is, can they not just ask people interested in donating to email a committee member to register to donate by a certain date. Promotion can all be very quickly via Twitter & Facebook page.

Then to the registered group without disclosing the actual overall figure required suggest an amount to be donated (slightly greater than the Mean value, to cover any dropper outers and if surplus can go to Clan Funds) and a cut-off date. Then it's up to individuals to donate more if they want to/can afford to...

And on the cut-off date if short of funds required, just advise the shortfall required so people can chip in a little more if it's needed...

I think that's a sensible way of doing it. I'll nominate myself as the holder of the list, so anyone interested email me at shanes@connachtclan.com. Stick 'Player Sponsorship' or something similar in the subject line, include your username on here. I'll keep everything confidential, and no donation will be too small.

I'd suggest a closing date for Saturday two weeks, i.e. 14th September unless there are any objections?
