No build up but since Conn aren't playing until tomorrow I thought maybe a few of ye are watching. Although Leinster and Blues have their lions back this match might be the more interesting, certainly from an Ireland and Connacht perspective. Payne at 13 and Gilroy at 15 could be a sign of things to come. Schmidt has a soft spot for big backs and wingers who can defend, and as Trimble has a central contract he and Bowe may well be lining out in the AIs, and young Allen seems like this year's break through winger.
Also Marshall starts at 9 it will be interesting to see what he can do and if he is truly in competition with Marmion for a cap this season.

2 tmo's in first mins, 5 metre scrum fecked up and a treviso lineout that the hooker slammed into the ground 3 metres, good game so far.

Payne gifts Luke Marshall an easy try with the flattest of passes and Ulster pull ahead to 10-3.

3rd time lucky with the tmo, 10-3 22mins
one thing ive notice this year is the ref uses 'advantage' more as 'play on'.
ref shouts advantage and as long as you dont mess up in 10 seconds, he'll shout advantage over even if the play is moving cross field.
not really advantage, just play on.
last year, if the team didnt make 10metres the ref would call play back and have scrum.

15-3, treviso looked decent in the first 15 minutes but everything Ulster try seems to stick atm. Try for Allen after some lovely passing and Jackson misses the conversion.
Interesting point about the advantage, has there been an irb directive on this or why do you think it has changed? There seems to be a lot of change from ref to ref on the use of advantage as it is?

allen try when treviso was down to 14, player down injured
TREVISO ARE AWFUL.
Ethienne Reynecke has nothing on the treviso hooker,
6 linouts i think:
3 good ones
'fake' throw
took to long
and one the ball failed to travel 5m

every game ive seen the ref is reffing it the same, if the team with the advantage keep the ball, its play on. i guess some rule has been changed to allow play run freely and to keep the scrum limited

Half time, 15-3. Treviso has made two substitutions already and are pretty toothless, their rolling maul just ran out of steam before they could threaten the Ulster line. the handicap is +22 atm and the only reason the score wouldn't exceed that is if Ulster lose interest in the second half. Disappointing stuff as Ulster were able to sit back in the last 5-10 minutes without being damaged for it by Treviso. A very difficult team in Italy but obviously still struggling to match home form while away.

He had a bad time with injuries, I think, never got going with Leinster and was cut adrift as madigan replaced him and played a stormer game after game. Once madigan proved his worth a third place NIQ out half wasn't something any province could afford.
Glad to see he's doing we'll now, though
