Connacht travel to Geneva to play Oyonnax in the Challenge Cup on Saturday October 14th

This is new territory for Connacht. One of seven countries we will visit this season!

When: Saturday October 14th, 20:00
Where: Stade de Geneve, Geneva

Tickets

Tickets are available from https://www.billetterie.usorugby.com/

Buy tickets for Tribune Ouest. It is free seating so we will find a spot once we're in there.

Getting there

Reasonably straightforward to get to this one. Flights from Dublin to Geneva with Aer Lingus and Swiss. These are quite pricey now if you're doing a last minute trip but the Swiss flight home early on Monday morning is still affordable. Flying out, you may be cheaper to go indirectly at this stage. Easyjet fly to Geneva from a number of UK airports.

Lyon is an option as well.

You can avail of a free travel ticket in the luggage hall of the airport that will get you to your hotel for free. Once you check in you can pick up a free travel pass for the duration of your stay.

Accommodation

Plenty of accommodation in Geneva, though it's not the cheapest place in Europe!

Hotel accommodation does not seem to be in abundant supply in Oyonnax itself as it's not a huge town.

Hospitality

Mulligans (Rue de Grenus) confirmed they can show the other rugby for us if we're in (or in Charly O'Neill's). No everlasting happy hour or any such Melting Pot-esque deals unfortunately.

The Clubhouse (25 Rue Philippe-Plantamour) are offering a "pre match burger and beer deal for CHF15" (half price) for Connacht supporters on Saturday 14 October. Just present your match ticket to avail of the deal. Thanks to Maria for sorting that out and letting us know on the Clan Forum.

Provisional plan is to go to Mulligans for the Ulster game on Friday night for those who are around.

We've been in touch with the Oyonnac supporters' club. We will meet up with them at the Stade de Geneve on matchday.

Match Day Transport

Bus D goes from the city centre (Bel-Air) right to the stadium. Don't forget that you can get a free travel card from your hotel that allows you to use all the public transport in the city for the duration of your stay.

Things to see

If you like plastic, you will love Oyonnax. It was the centre of the French plastics industry and it has a plastic museum.

Geneva has plenty to keep you busy.

I updated the travel page with the few bits and pieces www.connachtclan.com/upcoming-away-trips/563-oyonnax-2017-2018
Oyonnax confirmed there will be food options at the stadium but didn't go into too much detail on prices and such.

Also, just a warning. I checked the roaming rates for Switzerland and they look pretty hefty, like two quid a minute and a tenner a MB type of thing, so don't stay chatting to the mammy for two long out there.

The owner of Mulligans/Charlys never/very rarely offers any deals. He knows the Irish will flock there anyway! It's a pity really. A gang of us will go the Clubhouse on Saturday afternoon to support their goodwill gesture (and have a burger) and we'll of course pop into Mulligans at some stage as it is centrally located and within walking distance to the Clubhouse too. I'd suggest Mulligans for the Ulster game on Friday evening. If ever, the good, cheap and cheerful "chez ma cousine" restaurant (salad, half chicken and chips) is only a stones throw away from Mullies........ www.chezmacousine.ch/site/fr/nos-restaur...gervais/plan-dacces/ Or the Key and EAgle up the road does fab pizza www.thekeyandeagle.com/ . Two more sleeps!!

We were also on to Servette RC, the "real" home team. They don't have a game this weekend and they say a lot of their players and staff will be at the game if anyone wants to have a chinwag about Swiss Rugby and invite them to join the Pro19 or whatever.
I'm not over til Saturday morning but it sounds like there'll be a good crowd there Friday night (I let Oyonnax SC know there isn't likely to be anyone in Oyonnax) so may as well name a venue for the Ulster v Wasps game and see how it goes.

Hey folks, The Clubhouse sports bar (25 rue Philippe-Plantamour - in the Paquis area) co-owner (Geoff), has kindly agreed on a "pre match burger and beer deal for chf15" (half price) for Connacht supporters on Saturday 14 October. You merely have to present your match ticket to avail of the deal. Later that evening there will be live music in the form of the amazing Elisa Mason.

They will also be showing soccer that afternoon (if that also tickles your fancy)!

The ground in Genève has a capacity around 30'000 - Munster played ten years ago front from 22'000 a Heino group stage game their.

Myself and some lads from Zurich Area will travel to "our" west to support Connacht

Connacht Abú!

Mulligans is a nice little bar. They don't do food though - just FYI. I'll get back on here if I manage to secure a discounted burger or something for Connacht supporters. I've contacted a couple of places :) Cheers, Maria

I've been in touch with them about the hotels, etc. so if anyone wants to go on the bus, I can ask them to hold us a few seats. I know a few people had been planning to go to Oyonnax (myself included) but not sure if anyone is now.
Online evidence suggests that their bus trips tend to come with complimentary coffee and pain au chocolat, so should be well worth the €15: www.flickr.com/photos/148195808@N02/3691...m-72157686832047344/

Heya - I live in Geneva so zero travel. Really looking forward to it. I wonder how many supporters will travel. I guess when all tickets are sold from one source there is no way of knowing how many to expect for the Connacht side. Should be good craic though!!
