Connacht travel to Brive for the Challenge Cup clash on Saturday December 9th

The last trip to Brive was particularly memorable, with a warm welcome show to the Clan by the Brive Supporters's Club, Kop Cabiste, and by Man of the Match Thomas Laranjeira, who bought us plenty of comenpsatory beverages to atone for all those points he scored against us.centre of brive

Getting there

There are direct flights to Bordeaux with Aer Lingus.
The Clan are running a bus from the airport to Brive to meet the flights Friday-Sunday.
It will be priced at €50 return. If we fill the bus we should have enough to fund the pre-match meal as well.

Seats for the bus are available in the Travel section of the Connacht Clan Shop.

Accommodation

Lots of options around town. A good few are in the Ibis Brive Centre. There are others closer to the centre of town, e.g. Le Coq D'Or, Hotel L'Andrea, Citotel Le Chapon Fin

Hospitality

We have been in touch with their supporters' club, Kop Cabiste.

Their bar is Le Relais du Pilou, a few minutes walk from the stadium. They are organising a meal for us before the match.

The menu will be :
Vegetables soupe
Salade de gésiers
Confit de canard, potatoes
Cheese
Buffet of desserts
Wine and coffee included

Match Day Transport

The stadium is withing walking distance of town. You can get a taxi but there only appears to be one of them!

Things to see

Le Chateau D'Eau. A cathedral. A couple of museums and a nice Old Town.

Thanks to the Clan in general and Pinky and Ruth in particular for helping us make it a great weekend. Where else could you, within a couple of hours , indulge in ducks gizzards , drink unlimited dodge vino , watch your team come back from 19-3 down and enjoy it with like minded pilgrims !! Happy days....

For those that enjoyed the pre-match meal on Saturday, the Clan have returned the invitation for the home game.
"Christmas Dinner" at 1pm on Saturday in Rabbitt's. Three courses for €20. Apparently there is a national shortage of duck gizzards so we will have to make do with turkey and ham. More details later but stick it in your diary. Kop Cabiste don't have quite the travelling crew we had but I think there are seven of them coming over.

I hope the one we were using was cleaner than this one.
And I'm pretty sure that green bit isn't supposed to float ...

Hard to believe that's only the second weirdest thing I've put through airport security on the way back from a Connacht game.

Yep, all the above booked in for dinner.
Just sent an email to anyone on the bus. Here's the info for anyone who missed it.

Bus
The bus company requires the names of all passengers so could anyone who booked more than one ticket please reply with the names of all the other passengers so we have a full list.
The bus will depart from Bordeaux Airport as soon as we have everyone aboard. Please find the Clan and make yourself known at the departure gate in Dublin so we can tick people off and save time at the other end.
The bus will stop first at the Ibis Hotel and then at Parking Winston Churchill, opposite Le Bar Basque.
Please figure out in advance which of these stops is more suitable for where you are staying so you know where to get off.
Note that there is no food or alcohol allowed on the bus. There are no toilet facilities on board but there will be a quick comfort stop at about half way. The journey time is about two and a half hours.
On Sunday morning, the bus will depart Parking Winston Churchill at 10.30 am and then pick up at the Ibis. This should have us at the airport with plenty of time to spare.

Friday night
For anyone who wants to go for a few drinks on Friday night, we will meet up at Le Bar Basque on Boulevard Jules Ferry. Some may remember this as the scene of our famous encounter with man-of-the-match Thomas Laranjeira on our last visit. They will be serving food there all evening. Nothing formal is organised but they are expecting a large group so come in for dinner or else eat somewhere else and drop in after for a beer.
Cafe Solo on Rue de la République have also invited us to drop in and are offering a free beer on presentation of the attached email. They close at 10 but you may want to drop in there at some point on Friday night or on Saturday afternoon. Don't forget to actually buy a drink as well :-) Also, based on the email, you may be required to sing a song, but I'm not sure if that is legally binding.

Saturday
Kop Cabiste, the Brive supporters' club have invited us to dinner at their HQ, Relais Du Pilou, 40 Avenue Honoré de Balzac. We will meet there at 4pm at the bar with dinner at 6.30 for 7.45 departure for the stadium, which is only about 10 minutes walk.
Relais Du Pilou will be open after the game as well, so we can wander back there afterwards.

There are still some seats on the bus, so if you know anyone else travelling who's not in the Clan, let them know.

Does anyone who's not on the bus want to join us for the pre-match meal with Kop Cabiste?
It's included in the price of the bus, but for anyone not travelling, it'll be €15. You can pay on the day but they want numbers in advance.
