Looking back at the last try, I think Harries was dangerously close to a simultaneous toe in touch as well, though I might have been mixing my boots up ...
To be honest, leaving the ground I thought we'd definitely got the rub of the green (Healy's try looked wrong on a number of levels at the time) but looking back it doesn't seem that bad.
If it was the other way I'd probably be moaning about about it as well, that's just how it works. I had the misfortune to read a bit of the Wales Online comment section in the article that decries the "disgusting" decision. It is an almost entertaining mixture of outrage, conspiracy theory, self-loathing, racism and navel gazing, all interspersed with the occasional plea to cop the feck on (or whatever the Welsh for feck is).
Though of course, as always, the Blues fans knocking about Galway were gracious and all round sound.

Stupid mistake from the winger is being excused by fussing over multiple replays of the footage. Not like they missed a Champions Cup Semi as a result of a mistake in the act of scoring. Take the Learnings.

It wasn't so much a stupid mistake as an absolute try saver from Marmion who smashed him to put him off balance and on the way to touch, unfortunately KOd himself in the process.

I'll be honest and admit I'd probably be annoyed if it happened to us, but to say it was the difference in the game is a huge stretch. Thought Connacht were the better team throughout, the fact we were never behind is a testament to that. There were refereeing decisions we probably would have been moaning about if we'd lost, and it's impossible to know exactly how the game would have played out if they'd scored anyway. They could have missed the conversion, or maybe the defence galvanise and they never score at 78-79' with the team taking the foot off a bit the closer the clock gets to 80 with 2 scores in it.

Match being repeated on S4C just now, halfway through.

Apparently it was due to to being a simultaneous grounding and in touch like was said, that's a rule I certainly wasn't aware of, but negates slightly how bad the ref was that he actually knew that rule, which seeing as that is a rule it probably was the right call.
salmson's Avatar
salmson replied to the topic: #65734 1 month 4 days ago
No, they had scrum advantage from our knock on at the ruck. Pretty sure scrum advantage dies once you cross the line, but I think the ref was saying they didn't... or something.
Former Coach replied to the topic: #65733 1 month 4 days ago
I thought that it should have been given too. But we’ll take it! I was puzzled that the ref gave an attacking scrum- surely it should have been a 22? But maybe because the touch-in -goal and touchdown were simultaneous, there is a technical rule there that I wasn’t aware of?

While we're on the subject of dodgy decisions (and boy was the try-that-wasn't dodgy) did anyone have a good view of the Thornton hit on Farrell midway through the first half? Farrell was carrying on the left side of Cardiff's (Bohermore end) 22 and it looked on tv like Thornton hit him with a forearm smash.

With the benefit of a few days (and about 20 rewatches of various parts of the match) I can only say how happy I am with the match.

Really solid game all around. Bundee was a force to be reckoned with. Matt Healy was running solid all game. Tiernan was so composed. Blade had a fantastic game, well deserved and well worked try, he essentially played the full 80.

Pack bullied them all game. Boyle was great, Ultan smashed, the entire front row were fantastic.

As for the referring decision, seems to me that it was a fairly clear try. Pics floating around showing the ball grounded before the hand in touch. These things happen, I'm not loosing any sleep over it. Lots of annoyed Cardiff fans, and I can't begrudge them that. Look forward to the fixture next season!

Roll on Munster!

I don't even follow any Cardiff/Welsh rugby people on social media and all my feeds are still coming down with pages and pages of whinging over Blues supposedly being robbed.

It's not like the entire game hinged on that try decision, like if let's say the clock was a ridiculous amount of time in the red and the officials made several bad calls in a row which then ended up with the wrong team winning... Ahem... Short memories apparently.

My plan all along was to get top 3 before the Munster game. So happy with that result. How many times have gone in at half time with a lead with the wind in the first half and just couldn’t score in the second half. Cardiff didn’t use the conditions all well as we did but the pressure on Cardiff for most parts of the second half is what I was most pleased with.

Officially I don't think it's allowed but they definitely do it. They don't want to encourage it as it can slow up the queues if people don't have the barcode ready or if the phone switches to landscape mode or the screen locks while they're handing it over, etc. but they won't turn you away.

If you're in town a bit early and want to print it, you can do it for 20c at the City Library on Augustine St.
Email it in advance to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and they will email you back a code after a few minutes. Put the code into the printer/scanner machine in the library along with a 20c coin and you're sorted.

There's sometimes parking close enough to the ground, but best bet realistically would be to park in town and walk/hop on a bus out to Thomond. You could chance parking in Dunnes/Woodies on the Ennis Road which is probably the right side of town, but clamping is usually in full effect.

Bazzo replied to the topic: #65535 1 month 1 week ago
Just watched the match back here and have to say I'm really unimpressed with the standard of refereeing. Zebre players had hands on the ball at pretty much every single breakdown, the tacklers were holding the ball and man for ages to slow it down and there are loads of examples of players jackaling well after the ruck is already formed, the referee either let it go completely or just told them to release after they had already slowed the ball for ages. Butler actually mentioned it to the ref a couple of times but he was completely disinterested. The penalty against Connacht at half time was bizarre too, he blew it for "straight off feet" against Heff but both his knees were up off the ground and he was bound to the player who had been carrying the ball so I have absolutely no clue what the actual offense was, if anyone else could clear it up I'd be grateful.

Strange game. We could/should have built a good lead in the first half, but the longer the game went on with a single point margin, the more nervy we looked. Understandable considering the importance of the game for us I suppose. Losing Tom definitely didn't help, even though Daly was good when he came on. Copeland really helped steady the ship, and that turnover at the end was massive. He deserves to start next week on that alone. Having watched Cardiff against Munster, we need a big performance next week to contain them. I'm sure we'll rise to the occasion.

A depressingly bad performance where we win in the end is so much sweeter than the usual "brave" away losses where we dominate a half and die in the second.

Hopefully they will be much better next week. At least Bundee and Roux will be available. Hopefully Carty, who still looked injured tonight, will be given as much rest as possible beforehand too.

I've been a critic of Copeland but he had two major moments both at the end and earlier when his break deserved points but we pissed it away.

Jaysus!
It's a win Jim but not as we know it.
Missed Farrell going off, everyone nervous we lacked attacking flair in first half.
Thought Ref was kind to them in first half when they persisted in consistently fouling both in play in their 22 and in the scrum.
I thought Fainga’a and Dillane got through a lot of work.
I'll take an ugly win, need a huge improvement for next week.
Accidentally Onside replied to the topic: #65509 1 month 1 week ago

Chalk it up, walk it off and move on. Not a good performance but Zebre were well up for that and played well, particularly in defence.

Daly came on for Godwin vs. Ospreys and played 10. If Godwin had come off earlier it's possible Blade would have been an option with Healy going to 9, but Blade had already replaced Marmion and we'd made a change in the back three, so Daly it was. Thought he did quite well.

You've got to think it's going to be a 100% first choice team heading over to this.

We've had some bad days over in Parma, but Zebre havn't won a Pro14 game since October, and only one home win at all this season. I'm not sure am I more or less reassured by that stat. I think we're seen as being a scalp for them to take, and take it they have.

it's a banana peel.
