New run off poll to decide the Young Player of the Year

Definitely Roux for me. He's been outstanding all season and looks like a completely different player to the one who struggled at Leinster.

Very tough call this year

Very tough indeed. I immediately thought Quinn because he is so improved, but then if I ask myself who out of that list I'd least want to leave, my mind is changed immediately.

RonanL, I know where you're coming from. If it were Connacht plus Ireland I wouldn't hesitate to click Robbie, but if I try to restrict my thinking just to Connacht it opens it up a bit and makes it a little tougher call.

Roux is 24. Hardly a young player.

Just so's you know, if you have a look at any of the numerous threads we have up on this point from this year or last, you'll see he remains eligible. Not by a lot, I'll grant you, but them's the rules.

The award is for 'Young Player of the Year' not 'Player we are most desperate to hang on to'. As Rogue said, Robbie has spent long periods in Ireland camp this season. He's been great when available but has missed too many games to win this in my opinion.

It's completely open to interpretation. I agree it's not 'Player we are most desperate to hang on to', but it's also not 'most improved young player, who is not as good as other young players who have been good for ages'. I think Quinn would be a really deserving winner, but I also think that Robbie is world class and in a weird way is suffering in this poll for being so good for so long, and also it seems for representing his country with distinction. If anything I would have thought that should strengthen his case for being Connacht's young player of the year. I mean, none of the others were deemed good enough to represent Ireland in all 5 games of a championship winning Irish team.

I voted for Quinn Roux.

Before he joined he was subject to many attacks, both on here and in the Irish MSM. He has upped his work-rate and his attitude has been magnificent, has been ever-present this season, and is now an integral part of the team.

Yeah I voted for Roux on the basis that his performance was perhaps more fundamental to Connacht's season than Henshaw, just edging Marmion for me. With Swift basically falling off the radar and being so light at second row we needed an immediate - and lasting - impact and he gave us both of those things. He's not the best lock in Ireland or anything like that, but very little was expected from him and we really needed him to perform and he has done so to a much greater degree than even the most optimistic poster could have hoped.

I went for Leader. I know Mils hasn't shone at FB, but Daragh certainly has. Great improvement on last year and is really growing into a role of great consistency at the back.

I voted for Darragh.

He started the year off a little nervous, but he's come on leaps and bounds. I was Ospreys away, and even though he was struggling with an injury, he was still trying and putting his all into his role.

with Mils absences, I think he's filled the FB role well, and become a weapon with the ball in hand, doing crash balls and decent runs.

Ok, the poll is now closed and with over 50% of the vote Quinn Roux is the clear winner.
