As I said in the survey - the amount of lost revenue due to people unwilling to stand out in the elements must be huge and needs to be considered!
I really hope this is done and done right, not a half arsed attempt! Do it once do it right and allow for future changes thereafter

For sure, and if you're a rugby family that's three or four of food/drinks/gear lost in sales in one hit...

The seemed more interested in technology, rather than comfort.
Give me 4 covered sections, and some better permanent seating, and shove off with your power sockets for phones and apps that tell me what bathrooms are busy

I agree with you, but looking at the bigger picture if building something, you have to plan for the future, (apps, phone charger sockets), also you got to think of the ability to stage other events, concerts etc., and the requirements for these events.
Mind you an app to look at the replays of the tackle on Jack would have been used by most people last night!
The most important is comfortable, and good viewing platforms (seated and terraced), it's vital ( a good view) for looking at rugby in my opinion.

I definitely think that Ravenhill up in Belfast should be the model that they use for any new stadium. 4 fantastic covered stands with some seating and some terrace in them all, part of a stand totally designated for families, loads of toilets, bars and food outlets... and the atmosphere is fantastic to boot.
They run loads of park and rides to surrounding areas and have lines of taxis for people after the match. Park and ride is definitely the answer to traffic issues for a city centre location.
Capacity up there is just north of 18,000 so unlikely we go with something that big, but a slightly scaled back version would be just what we need.

Absolutely agree with you. It is a well thought out, proper rugby venue - the best in the country in my opinion.

Connacht need to use that as the template for what we want - capacity 10,000 max - located on the grounds on the Sportsground.

KPIs - Food halls / Toilet facilities / Proper bars / Family enclosures / Free Wifi / Museums / Conference centre

Final piece of the puzzle to get sorted. I agree we need to look at ravenhill etc and use its and other stadiums best aspects and incorporate them and most importantly future proof any new stadium.
Make it Connachts go to event centre. It’s madness that all of Connacht hasn’t got such an arena for all types of events. Get everyone we can on board it’s for the entire province.

Couldn't agree more, it's needs to be multi purpose, soccer, concerts , big commercial events, even some exhibition gaa like the 7 aside hurling etc, Some international games for the junior ranks and the ladies who would fill a smaller stadium easily. It's badly needed in the west, the entire province would need to support it and every bit of gain or financial assistance or support should be examined amongst the 'Connacht diaspora ' near and far.

Is a capacity of 10,000 too small for a stadium to host any future Rugby World Cup games!? I thought that you had to have a minimum capacity of 14,000 to qualify for these type of big events?

I think the minimum capacity for a world cup stadium is supposed to be 15,000 alright but it seems to be somewhat flexible.

I remember it was increased to 16.5k for 2015. I read it somewhere but can't find it now.

Well, the possibility of using the 2023 RWC as a platform to build/develop a new ground was really buried. I was travelling in spain a few weeks ago and came across this tidy little stadium, the estadio nueva balastera palencia.
Very well laid out beautiful little 8500 seater stadium, enclosed from the elements for fans and players alike.
I think this is the type of thing Connacht need to strive toward, looks well externally also, would look nice down around the new docks area!!

Came across these two great stadiums in Switzerland.

Stade de la Maladière is an absolutely class 12,000 seat stadium in Neuchâtel, Switzerland (34,000 people but 80,000 if you count the metropolitan area) . Stadium was built in 2007 and the team went bankrupt in 2012 so maybe not the best fiscal example but it is a really cool looking stadium right by the water. Could envision this in Galway

This stadium is a really interesting idea on how to keep money ticking over even when not in use and help provide green energy. While it only holds 8,500 it is a pretty ingenious idea for a stadium in a small town (Schaffhausen is only 35,000).

Why is looking at other peoples nice stadiums so addicting?

For the same reasons most of Grand Designs' audience live in urban shoeboxes...

It's not a shoebox, it's a pre-loved, upcycled, repurposed erstwhile footwear receptacle.

It's the human condition, I suppose; to want what we can't have. At this point i'm just hoping for something, anything, different at the current Sportsground site.
