The application is up on the City Council's planning website here , file reference 18402.

However, it was only received on 7th December and is still in the pre-validation stage so there doesn't seem to be any documents attached to it just yet.

You would usually be able to view application documents by clicking the "View Scanned Files" button.

I imagine they will get around to this eventually but probably not before Christmas!

It must just have been put up today because I wasted away my evening yesterday looking at all the different planning that have been put in before at the sportsgrounds, hopefully the drawings will be up soon and it'll give me something to do Christmas day

Put out an extra long Christmas stocking and you might get a big tube of architectural drawings.

Also interesting to note that the applicant is "Connacht Rugby Stadium Limited" and not "Connacht Branch, IRFU".

If the planning process works the way it used to, you might need to leave a brown envelope out beside the mince pies and the carrot.

Little breakdown of the planned works in the Application, so cheerio grass 4G pitch it is then....
Probably only benefit is upkeep, the surface at the SG is firm and drains well any time of year. If it rains regardless of of Grass/4G a wet ball is a wet ball...

Hey Sea_point, any chance you can convert those plans to a PDF for me? I'm having trouble with viewing them on this Mac...
Also, hope all is well and you had a great time in France!

I'd like to think we'd have a healthy advantage over all of those primarily because:
1/ All weather pitch can be used all year round by any field sport
2/ The pro team are an economic plus for the area

A 34m pool is no good to anyone to be honest, if you're going big you might as well go 50m or stick to 25m whilst 34 is neither fish nor fowl.
Rowing club is surely pretty single sport specific but on the flip side both projects will be looking for lower funding than we are.

Realistically, there is zero chance of the Council rowing in (sorry) behind one of the other projects at the expense of the Sportsground. The monetary and attendance (voter) figures alone decide in our favour before you even look at the sporting arguments.

The real problem could be that they fail to pick one at all, in which case the Sportsground, and Galway in general, could miss out due to half hearted backing and politicians trying to be too smart and please everyone/not p!ss off anyone. To quote from the article: "Already, councillors are seeking to see if they can compromise and promote all three".

Might be no harm to start adding a list of who-voted-how on Connacht rugby/Sportsground related issues to the Stats section.

The cynic in me would say that Kingfisher saw a deadline coming up and lashed in an application for what is largely a commercial project, signing up the water polo club to lend it some weight.
The Rowing Club plan has a lot more merit, though I would be shocked if that is not slap in the middle of an SAC. Also the fact that it is just one of several rowing clubs applying to build it itself and not a joint venture through Rowing Ireland or whatever must surely count against it.

Anyone know what the story is with this presentation? The article says it's today but the City Council website doesn't list a meeting for today.
