Match Thread

Edinburgh welcome Connacht to BT Murrayfield this Friday in the team’s first home fixture of the new campaign, and Cockerill is hopeful that his side can take advantage of home comforts in front of an expectant Edinburgh support.

“Games on the road certainly take a toll on the players so it’s nice to have some home comforts. We’ll be training at BT Murrayfield all week and then obviously play here on Friday night.
“It would be great to have a big crowd and get in front of our own supporters, so we’ve got to match their passion with a fine performance – that’s going to be really important for us.
And Friday night’s opponents will be looking to build upon a strong season opening, which has saw the Irish province split their first two fixtures of the year.

“Connacht have had a pretty good start. They just lost to Glasgow, but could have won that at the death and then they had a pretty big win against Zebre last weekend.
“They’re playing some really god stuff. Andy Friends seems to have had a really big impact on them and they’re playing with the ball in hand.
“They’re not too dissimilar to us in that they don’t have too many rock stars and they work on their strength as a unit.
“We need a big performance. But I’ve got no doubt in that if we perform as we did against Ulster, then we’ll be on the right end of the result. We just need to keep that right intensity.”

Head Coach Richard Cockerill yesterday confirmed that centre Mark Bennett is set to miss part of the season after picking up a hamstring injury in last weekend’s Guinness PRO14 match against Ulster.
Cockerill also confirmed that Fijian international Bill Mata picked up a shoulder injury in the defeat to Ulster and is questionable for this weekend’s encounter with Connacht at BT Murrayfield.
However, scrum-half, Henry Pyrgos – who was substituted with a leg injury in Friday’s match – has recovered and is in contention for selection.

A game we should be winning if we want to be at the right side of the table, will be tight.
Bookies doesn't fancy us tho Edinburgh -7

Hope it's better than the painful one he did with Jake Heenan.

The prospect of having to listen to more Luke FitzGerald spoofery turned me off the podcast completely after that.

To be fair if you can get over the first 5 minutes where he tends to speak about himself his podcasts tend to be fairly decent.

Disappointed no sign of Robin Copeland yet, although we are very well stocked in the back row at the moment with Boyle in particular a revelation. I think TOH is lucky to hold his place at the expense of Cian K. Is Kelleher injured?

I know your handle is "sligsup", but when you display such groundless-yet-unquenchable optimism I just have to ask....

Are you sure there isn't a little Mayo in you?

There is Mayo genetics and Roscommon Genetics and I also lived in Galway so from my side is it just sheer desperation

Thanks Podge. Good to hear he's almost there! Would be a real statement of intent for the season were we to win in Edinburgh tonight.
