John Muldoon's 300th cap, the moveable feast.

Been querying this for a while and nobody can give me a definitive answer, so putting up a topic for it.
The big question is... on what game will Mul's 300th cap fall?
By my count he has 297 already (possibly 298, see below), not the 295 the branch are counting.
Pro12 - 228 caps (203 starts + 25 as sub)
EPCR - 67 caps (65 + 2)
Minor tests* - 2
Total - 297.
Assuming that Mul comes on tomorrow night and plays vs. Glasgow, his 300th cap would be... Zebre away.
*Connacht have played 4 games vs. international XVs in Mul's career.
2007 - South Africa. Connacht caps awarded, Mul played.
2008 - Portugal. Connacht caps awarded, Mul did not play.
2010 - Samoa. Connacht caps awarded, Mul played.
2011 - Ireland Select XV. Friendly/WC warmup, no Connacht caps awarded, Mul played.
Can anyone help me out with confirmation/correction? I'm pretty sure the 07, 08, 10 games were capped - they were counted in Brett Wilkinson's caps totals when he retired, they were during the November test windows, and reports of the 2010 game referred to "competitive debuts" for some Connacht players. Conversely, the 2011 game was arranged at short notice in the pre-season timeframe, we were playing an Ireland XV, not Ireland, so I don't think it was capped on the Connacht side (obviously none of these games are capped by the international side).

He played for the Barbarians too but I'm not sure that counts as a cap.

Not for his Connacht total it doesn't, anyway!

On the team announcement for the Glasgow game, his Connacht caps were at 296. So that would have been 297, meaning Zebre is 298. Looking like Leinster at home will be 300 for him. That's assuming those teamsheets have the right number to begin with.

Right, but if you look back at the original post from Salmson it looks like they aren't counting 2 caps vs South Africa & Samoa that they possibly should have been.

Maybe there's a bit of alternative facts going on so that Mul will reach his 300th at a Massive HOME GAME...

To quote Mark Wahlberg in Three Kings, "well it is and it isn't, baby".
67 European caps
epcrugby.com/matchcentre/player_archive....6&includeref=dynamic
230 league caps
(can't link to his Pro12 record as their site's crap)
John came off the bench against Samoa in 2010, can confirm this game was capped by Connacht according to IRFU website - "Winger Shane Monahan, who was making his competitive debut for Connacht, tries to shrug off Samoa's Jamie Helleur"
www.irishrugby.ie/mobile/european/1380.php#&ui-state=dialog
So that means he's on a *minimum* of 298 caps.
He missed the Portugal game in 2008, and Mul played against an Ireland XV in 2011 but I'm pretty sure this game wasn't capped on our side, the game was organised at quite short notice, outside the November window (when most "minor tests" are played), and Ireland weren't playing as Ireland, if you know what I mean.
So it comes down to South Africa in 2007: if Connacht capped this - and I'd expect they did - then he reaches 300 if he plays in Parma; if not he needs one more. If anyone can confirm or contradict please do!
What I can tell you is if he plays every week between this and then, the Leinster game will *absolutely* not be his 300th cap. Therefore my money's on Connacht celebrating that night. Nice that despite our massive improvements we can still do the hokey old incompetent province thing for nostalgia's sake every now and again.

That goes without saying, Mul can do whatever he wants in my book freedom of the city and drive his flock of sheep over the quincentennial bridge on the weekend of a Connacht final in pearse stadium for and I wouldn't say a word to him.
But it's not a hard thing to work out and while the Leinster game would be ideal , if it's not his 300th game then why open it up to ridicule by saying it is.
Then that becomes the story that Connacht can't count as opposed to celebrating a giant of a man in the green jersey!
Courage is knowing what lies on the other side and still opening the door.

How about take a page from the Queens book, and call the Leinster game his 'Official 300th Cap'?

Never mind about the specifics of the 300th Cap, just declare the day of the Leinster game "John Muldoon Day" regardless, and as a part of the day do a presentation for achieving 300 Caps...
